Unusual Catch RTP

Unusual Catch drags you straight below the waterline, where a school of goofy fish, empty beer bottles and a battered old dinghy make up the reels. Northern Lights Gaming built this laid back fishing slot with the reels sitting right under the water's surface, like you are peeking through a boat's glass bottom while the fish do all the heavy lifting.

As always, we have reeled in the facts on which casinos actually pay out the highest RTP on this exact slot. But cast a line over to the button below first to see which casinos offer the best average RTP overall:

Sticky Frames, Wilds and the Angler symbol

The bonus engine in Unusual Catch runs on something called Sticky Frames. Every time a Wild lands, it creates a locked frame with a multiplier that starts at 1x and climbs by 1x for every extra Wild that drops into that same spot, all the way up to a maximum of 5x. Land the special purple Wild and it can multiply itself, spawning even more Wilds around it, while the Angler symbol fills every locked frame with regular Wilds all at once. This is where the real money hides, and honestly it is the most fun part of the whole game.

Free spins trigger by landing three or more Scatters, handing you between 10 and 20 free spins depending on how many you hooked. Land just two Scatters on the top rows instead and you can trigger a bonus nudge respin, a nice little consolation prize before the main bonus even kicks off.

Look and feel

Visually, Unusual Catch keeps things breezy with cartoon fish, sunglasses and the odd beer bottle floating past in the background. It is charming without feeling childish, and the soundtrack feels more like a lazy afternoon at the dock than a stressful casino floor.

Symbols and paytable

Below you can see exactly how much each symbol pays depending on how many you land in a winning combination.

The Wild substitutes for every symbol except the Angler and the Scatter, so it can genuinely rescue a combo that otherwise looked pretty grim.

Paylines, stakes and max win

Unusual Catch plays out on 5 reels with 20 fixed paylines, so you always know exactly what you are wagering on every spin. Stakes adjust from roughly $0.15 up to around $30 CAD, and if you manage to land the max win, the pot can reach a full 8,000 times your stake. Volatility sits at medium, so it is neither the gentlest nor the most nerve wracking slot out there, but the balance between small wins and the occasional big splash feels genuinely well thought out.

Game studio

Northern Lights Gaming is the studio behind Unusual Catch, a developer that likes building on its own most popular concepts and experimenting with quirky bonus mechanics. Check out the game on Northern Lights Gaming's own page for Unusual Catch. The studio might still be fairly young in the industry, but it has clearly nailed the feel of the Sticky Frames mechanic, and we are hoping for more fishing adventures from them down the line.

Our verdict

Unusual Catch is a pleasant medium volatility slot that rewards patience over panic betting. The RTP is solid as long as you pick the right casino, and the Sticky Frames system makes every single Wild feel meaningful, unlike a lot of other slots where Wilds are just a nice bonus in passing.
