Hop aboard and chase gold through the Old West. Gold Rush Express is Area Vegas' train-themed slot, packed with nugget hauls, dynamite scatters, and four fixed jackpots.

As always, our focus here is RTP, since that number decides how much of your stake you can actually expect back over time.

Casinos with the highest RTP for Gold Rush Express

We track the RTP setting at every casino offering Gold Rush Express, and the list below is updated continuously from our own database.

A higher RTP means the game theoretically pays back a larger share of stakes over time, so it pays off to track down the right place to spin.

How Gold Rush Express plays

The train rolls out across 5 reels and 4 rows, with 20 fixed paylines. Bets range from $0.20 up to $50.00 per spin, leaving room for both the cautious prospector and the high roller.

The hit frequency sits around 29 percent, meaning roughly one in three spins lands some kind of win. Volatility is high, so keep some patience in reserve for the big payouts.

Rush Express and the bonus features

The game logo acts as the Wild, substituting for every regular symbol except the Scatter, Rush Express, Bell, and Gold Train symbols. It's also the best-paying symbol on its own, worth 10x the stake for five in a row.

The Rush Express feature

Whenever a Bell or Gold Train symbol lands on reel 5 alongside at least one Rush Express symbol on reels 1 to 4, the locomotive gets moving. The Bell collects the value of every nugget on screen, while the Gold Train can multiply the total by up to ten times. The train then rolls along the track, revealing cash prizes car by car, and the final car hands out either a multiplier or one of the game's four fixed jackpots.

The Pick Feature

After any base game spin that hasn't already triggered another feature, gold nugget symbols can randomly kick off a small pick game. Match three identical symbols and you'll bag the matching jackpot: Mini at 20x, Minor at 50x, Major at 500x, or Grand at a full 5,000x the stake.

Free Spins

Three dynamite Scatter symbols award 10 free spins outright. The round can't be retriggered, but the reels are souped up during free spins and the Rush Express feature shows up noticeably more often, which is usually where the bigger payouts hide.

How many spins do you get

If you start playing with $200 and bet $1 per spin, we can compare how many spins you get depending on the payout level.

At the highest level of 96.45%, you theoretically lose 3.55% of your bet per spin, which equals $0.04 per spin. That gives you approximately 5 634 spins before your budget runs out.

At a lower payout level of 94.20%, the theoretical loss is 5.80%, which is $0.06 per spin. That means you can spin approximately 3 448 times before the money runs out.

The difference is 2 186 spins between these levels – quite a significant difference when you think about it!

Symbols

Here's the payout for five matching symbols in a row, the top tier in the game:

Symbol5 of a kind
Wild (game logo)10x
High symbols (gas lantern, shovel, pickaxe, money bag, gold bars)2x-5x
Low symbols (10, J, Q, K, A)1x

That 2x to 5x range is split between the five premium symbols, with the gold bars sitting at the top. Wins always need to start on the leftmost reel to count.

Graphics and gameplay feel

The reels sit on an old railway bridge cutting through a mountain pass, with a gold train chugging back and forth above the grid. The mood is dusty and western without feeling overdone, and the Rush Express animation feels genuinely well put together once the trains start rolling.

Game studio

Gold Rush Express comes from Area Vegas, a studio founded in 2022 in Las Vegas by Anton Kuhlmann and Serena Petersen, who also co-founded SpinPlay Games. The studio picked up Rookie of the Year 2024, and Gold Rush Express itself was nominated for Best iGaming Product at the European iGaming Excellence Awards. Our verdict on Gold Rush Express

We're fond of the jackpot feel in Gold Rush Express. The 96.45% RTP sits well above average, and four fixed jackpots up to 5,000x always give you something to chase. The train theme also feels like a fresh spin on the crowded gold-mining genre.

The high volatility means the game demands patience, so budget for a few dry stretches before the train actually pulls into the station.
