RTP, max win and ways to win in Congo Cash

The original Congo Cash doesn't have a bonus buy feature, but the RTP is still worth keeping an eye on. The top level sits at 96.51%, which is actually a touch above average for slots in this volatility class.

The catch is that Pragmatic Play lets casinos pick between three versions: 96.51%, 95.55% and 94.50%. The gap between the highest and lowest really adds up over time, so it pays to spin in the right spot (which is kind of the whole point of this page).

There are no classic paylines here. Instead you win via 432 ways to win on a 5-reel grid in a 4-3-3-3-4 layout, simply matching identical symbols from left to right on adjacent reels. The max win climbs all the way to 5,500x your stake, which with a bit of luck can turn into a seriously chunky payout.

Remember: RTP is always theoretical and calculated over an absurd number of spins. It guarantees nothing in the short term.

How many spins do you get?

Wondering how much the different RTP levels actually chew through your playing budget? We've put together a little example below.

If you start playing with $200 and bet $1 per spin, we can compare how many spins you get depending on the payout level.

At the highest level of 96.5%, you theoretically lose 3.5% of your bet per spin, which equals $0.04 per spin. That gives you approximately 5 714 spins before your budget runs out.

At a lower payout level of 94.5%, the theoretical loss is 5.5%, which is $0.06 per spin. That means you can spin approximately 3 636 times before the money runs out.

The difference is 2 078 spins between these levels – quite a significant difference when you think about it!

How the game works - the Jewel Board is the heart of it

Congo Cash is a fairly stripped-back slot mechanically, but it's the Jewel Board above the reels that makes it exciting. On top of the three middle reels (2, 3 and 4), random jewels land and swap out on every spin, with new ones dropping in from above.

To actually bag a jewel, you need to land two Butterfly symbols on reels 1 and 5 while also landing at least one Congo Cash symbol on reels 2, 3 or 4. Pull it off and you can collect up to three jewels on a single spin. And this is where the big stuff hides: cash prizes between 5x and 200x your bet, three fixed jackpots (Minor 25x, Major 100x and Grand a whopping 2,000x) plus free games.

A little tip: the base game itself is pretty stingy and pays modestly, so patience is key. The real money lives in the Jewel Board and the free spins round.

The bonus round & free spins

Free games are triggered by collecting at least one free games jewel via the Jewel Board. The number of spins is decided by what the jewels reveal and can be anything from 8 to a dizzying 100 free spins.

The best part? During free spins you're guaranteed at least one wild on every spin on the reel where you collected the free games jewel, and the Jewel Board stays active for the whole round. So this is exactly where you want to be when those jackpot dreams are meant to come true.

Game developer

Congo Cash was developed by Wild Streak Gaming and is distributed via the Pragmatic Play platform. The game launched in early 2021 and quickly became a favourite thanks to its simple mechanics, its lush jungle theme and that satisfying chase for the Grand jackpot.

The graphics are deliberately a little retro, nodding to old physical one-armed bandits, which some players love and others find a touch old-fashioned. Either way, its popularity was big enough that Pragmatic later released the sequel, Congo Cash XL.

Pros and cons of Congo Cash

Pros:

  • High max win of 5,500x for those chasing the really big spins.

  • Jewel Board with three jackpots adds extra thrill to every spin.

  • Simple, easy-to-play mechanics with no fiddly rules.

  • Up to 100 free spins with guaranteed wilds.

Cons:

  • The base game is stingy and demands some patience.

  • RTP varies a lot depending on the casino's setting.

  • No bonus buy feature in the original for those who want instant action.

  • The retro graphics aren't everyone's cup of tea.

Our take on the game: Congo Cash is a lovely little jungle romp for anyone who enjoys cash-collect and jackpot hunting. The base game can feel lean at times, but once the Jewel Board lights up and a Grand jackpot flickers into view, it's hard not to grin your way out of the jungle.
